Who would be the best presidential candidate?
(May 2007)

We'd love to hear your answer to this month's Q. Send us your response by clicking this link. Be sure to write "Q: Opinion" in the field marked "article for comment." Thanks!

Vincent Alozie: “The only two candidates I know who are running as Democrats are Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. One is charismatic, the other is experienced. I guess I’d choose Barack Obama. I think he’d be able to solve most or some of the problems we have. I think he’d be able to solve the war in Iraq, and not just play politics like Bush. And I think he’d create a better reputation for the US than Bush has in the past years.”

Ivy Farguheson: “Bill Richardson, the Governor of New Mexico, could be a good candidate but not right now. I don’t think he’s ready, and New Mexico is failing in s many ways. There are so many people that should not be running. Not Obama. He has the makings of a good senator but running for president would mess that up. I think for 2008 Hillary Clinton would be a good candidate. She knows how to play the political game. I think as long as she’s married to Bill Clinton and she actually uses him, unlike Gore, then she’s able to get the African Americans and Latinos out to vote for her. I think if people can get past their own ideas, Obama would be the best candidate. He’s got great ideas. Also if he’s elected, that would show me where this country truly is in the area of race relations. I like Hillary, but she’s so polarizing. If a man had her same qualities, there would be no problem. I just see her as a strong, competent person.”

[Left] Morgan Allen: “Either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. First, because they’re Democrats and the Republicans have been messing everything up. Hillary has experience, and she’d have Bill to help, for guidance. Obama seems like he has something new to bring to the table—he’s young, fresh, intelligent. I can’t tell who is most electable. In this area, we’re on board with what’s going on in the world, but the majority of America is not opening their eyes to that. We have to end the war in Iraq and bring our troops home.”

[Right] Tanya Roberts: “I agree. Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. And Hillary already pretty much was president.”

Kim Sator: “Whoever is elected, it will be an uphill battle. Clinton had great ideas but with a Republican majority in Congress, they didn’t get implemented. The president has term limits, in Congress they do not. My question is ‘at what point do we have term limits for all?’

Paul Richards: “I haven’t had much time to think about it. I know Clinton’s running but I wouldn’t vote for her. Even though I’m a Republican I don’t like our guys being in Iraq getting killed every day. I wouldn’t want my sons over there. It’s worse than the Viet Nam war. So if the Democrats can get them out, I’d vote for them. I pray every day they’ll get our guys out of there.”

[far right]: Irm Wessel [with Amanda and Rebecca]: “It’s too early to decide. I like to be open-minded and decide when the time comes. Health care and immigrant rights are important issues for me.”

[near right] Morris Wessel: “I’d say the same. Also, getting out of the war and improving educational facilities for all children are important issues.”

Joseph Adams: “I don’t know for sure. As long as it’s a Democrat.”
