TAKOMA PARK, MARYLAND • SILVER SPRING, MARYLAND

Features: Q— Photos and Inquiry by Julie Wiatt

What is your vision of the future?

Roz Grigsby

Roz Grigsby: "A vibrant community -- that people know Takoma Park is the happening place."

Morgan Anderson

Morgan Anderson (at right): "I really think the world's going to become more revolved around technology, and people are going to lose their sense of touch with each other because we're so used to talking via computers, cell phones, all those things. I really think that a lot of traditional means of communication are going to be lost. It's definitely a bad thing for humans to lose interest in each other. I think it's sad to see children who'd rather email their friends than go out and play with them."

Anderson Bryson

Anderson Bryson (at left): "The question is, 'Is there a future?' Looking as far as we know it, I think things will start to get a little better for all of us once Bush is out of office and the troops are home. A lot of people will feel a lot better about what's going on in the country."

Gary Vierk (near right): "Flying cars and monorails. A cleaner society with alternative fuels and more hydrogen power instead of electricity or gasoline. That's what I see. Also, affordable space travel."

Kiki Hamilton (far right): "Hillary Clinton as the next president. Bush would be out of office and the Democrats in office and hopefully that would move the US forward."

Bob White: "Well, it does look gloomy with what the world's going through now in the Middle East."

Elmer Hamm: "We have many irons in the fire. We're waiting for a new fire station. They told us it would be a year. There's been a fire station here since 1894 when it was in a log cabin. Our biggest goal is to get the new station built so we can continue to provide service to the community.

Bob Jarboe: "Right now the goal is to get a new station, to maintain the status quo and beyond. We'd like plenty of volunteers to help with that, too. All for the good of the community, to make Takoma Park an even better place to live."

Charlie Hobbs: "I'm going to play the piano."

Andrew Willey: "Getting more involved in fire service. If I become a firefighter I'd be the 4th generation. My dad, both granddads and a great granddad were firefighters."
