A walking tour of Silver Spring's old haunts

Local paranormal investigators lead Artwalk participants through the city and into the unknown

The monthly Gateway-Silver Spring Progressive Artwalks among south Georgia Avenue's galleries and studios are always a spirited good time. But on October 8, participants discovered a whole other dimension to Silver Spring's "old haunts."

That day's "GhostWalk" was led by Silver Spring residents and paranormal experts Lynn Koiner and Barbara Finch. Members of the Baltimore-Washington Paranormal Investigators, Finch and Koiner search Silver Spring for stories and evidence of paranormal activity. So far, they have found nearly a dozen haunted locations in the area.

The Gateway Progressive Artwalk, created by the Gateway Georgia Avenue Revitalization Corporation, has hosted nearly 1000 since 2002. In 2005, Gateway merged with the Silver Spring Regional Center in 2005 to become the Gateway-Silver Spring Progressive Artwalk. The Artwalk allows local artists to display original artwork in the area's small businesses.   They include Los Arrieros restaurant and gallery, Alchemy, Heliport Gallery, Moorenko's Ice Cream Café, Steve Hanks Studio, and Brian Hewitt Studio.

For information on the Artwalk, call 301-562-1400 or email david@gatewaycdc.com.

During the October 8 ArtsWalk/Ghostwalk, Barbara Finch and Lynn Koiner, Silver Spring residents and paranormal investigators, introduce residents to the ghostly local population.

Check the calendar for information on upcoming Artwalks.
