You Are Beautiful (After Rodin)
by Laura Brown
The disinterested expression
on the face of the one being lifted
says, “I am beautiful.”
Her head is lifted at an angle
and her arm dangles—a dead
weight for the one who lifts.
His muscles are taut
with the effort of supporting
something beautiful.
The one being lifted is like
the slow drip of rain
inexorable and exhausting.
